Silver Spring residents share with those who need it most!

Food banks Struggle

Food banks are struggling to stay up and running as donations dwindle. The pantries have more mouths to feed with fewer contributions.

"There is definitely an increase in people coming in to use our services and have a meal everyday. I've seen about a 30% increase," said Elaine Strokoff, Executive Director of Downtown Daily Bread in Harrisburg.

LoisJen Peters and her neighbors are taking action to help. They live in Traditions of America at Silver Spring, a community for people 55 and older. Each month, the group has a pot luck dinner. This time, instead of just sharing a meal with each other, they are sharing with those who need it most.

The group has collected hundreds of dollars in food, paper products, and other supplies.

"If you have anything extra, why not give it to someone who has nothing, a lot of people are in dire need of help," said LoisJen Peters.

Strokoff is especially thankful for the generous donation.

"If people are giving less financially than it is even more important we get donations of food and other products to help us, to feed the 150 people who come to us everyday," said Strokoff.

Folks at Traditions of America will be collecting donations until March 20th. Anyone can stop by the community's Sales Center between 11 am and 6 pm to contribute. The address is 15 Presidents Drive, Mechanicburg.
